Replaces governing body founder Louis Borg
The Malta
Handball Association has a new president in office, Paul Zammit, who was
unanimously elected to the post during the governing body’s annual general
meeting. Zammit will be heading the MHA for the next four years.
This year, the
association is celebrating its 25th anniversary and the association members
showed their appreciation to their former founder and president Louis Borg who
stepped down from the post of head of the organisation.
Zammit, although coming from the
football camp, brings a great amount of experience in sport administration both
at senior and youth level. Over the past years he served as president of Melita
Football Club and held posts in various Malta Football Association boards and
the Youth FA.
On the other hand, Ian Psaila
was elected as vice-president. Psaila has been active in the handball scene
since 1999 first as a player with La Salle Handball Club, then as coach seeing
him win in all major local competitions.
Later, Psaila also served as
assistant coach with the men’s senior national team and most recently was national
coach of the Beach Handball team.
In a statement the MHA said: “Both
Paul and Ian would like to thank Louis Borg, who is now Honorary President of
the Malta Handball Association, Andrew Decelis and the many other people who
where involved in handball and kept it going for the last 25 years.
“The association now aims to
build on that in place, and plans to push the game to higher levels whilst
attracting new youngsters to the fast paced and fun game of handball.”
