Blues bring in four new signings
Sliema Wanderers have announced that Jeffrey Farrugia has been appointed as the new club president, replacing Keith Perry who had been at the helm of the club for the past ten years.
Last weekend, Perry announced that he was on the verge of making way for Farrugia to take charge of the club. In fact, Perry had been in talks with Farrugia since last February and negotiations have now come to a positive end.
The appointment of Farrugia as the new club president was confirmed during a committee meeting on Wednesday.
“Further to a committee meeting held on Wednesday August 12, Mr Keith Perry resigned from his post as club president and Mr Jeffrey Farrugia was appointed club president,” the club said in a statement.
“During the meeting Mr Keith Perry was appointed chairman for all Club Projects. A rally for the supporters will be announced in the coming days to explain the club’s future.”
Farrugia has already left his mark at the Wanderers as he managed to attract to the club news sponsors Sharjah and they have already confirmed a lucrative signing in former Arsenal midfielder Denilson.
However, the Blues transfer activity continued on Friday when they announced a series of signings.
In fact, they signed Portuguese left-back Nuno Malheiro.
The 26-year-old defender represented his country at U-17 level and was on the books of Belenenses and Leiria before heading to Spain to Recreativo Huelva. Last season he was on the books of Portuguese club Espinho.
The Wanderers also signed Japanese midfielder Riki Kakinuma.
The 20-year-old started his career in Getafe and last season he was on the books of FC Lugano where he played for the U-21 team.
Sliema also completed a second midfield signing when wrapping up a diel for Peruvian Alessandro Milesi.
Milesi played much of his career in Italy where he played for the U-19 side of Brescia before heading to the US where he played for Miami FC.
Sliema’s fourth and final signing was Hugo Miguel Carambola Meira.
The 24-year-old Portuguese centre back was based in his homeland for much of his career where he played for lower-tiers sides Belenenses, Sintrense, Ponterrolense and Armacenenses.
Added to that, Sliema also announced that Italian rightback Antonio Stelitano has pledged his future at the club when putting pen to paper on a new one-year contract.
