The Garmin BSJ Open Water Swimming Championship on Sunday held the last of the four two kilometre swims.
Sunday’s race saw Andre Camilleri and Sarah Demicoli
reign supreme, finishing first in their respective categories.
Demicoli was the second swimmer out of the water behind
Camilleri.
Stefan Debono Grech and Bernard Sant exited behind them
to retain their second and third place on the men’s podium.
Kelsey Borg and Leah Satariano, who was just three
seconds away from Borg, completed the women’s top three.
As things stand, Camilleri and Demicoli are just one race
away before they could potentially seal the titles for the 2020 championship.
Camilleri, who won the Under14 title back in 2015, is vying for his first overall open water
title. Behind him in second place is Stefano Debono Grech followed by the young
Luca Vella.
Meanwhile, Demicoli is aiming to collect her sixth
championship title. Kelsey Borg, who currently stands in second place, has made
quite a name for herself having taken part in these championships for the first
time. Borg managed to finish fourth in
the first race however she upped her game to finish in second place in all subsequent
races.
Whilst Martina Micallef hangs on to third place, only 28 seconds
separate her from Leah Satariano, so the final race of the championship will
prove challenging for both.
The last race of the Championship will be the 4km race
scheduled to take place on Wednesday, starting at 5pm.
Registration for the final race of the championship can
be done online via the club’s website – https://bkarastjoseph.com/.
The 4km race will also serve
as the final qualifying point for the forthcoming Malta-Gozo-Malta and
Gozo-Malta Swimming Competitions.
The Garmin BSJ Open Water Championships are sponsored by
Garmin Malta and supported by proteinmalta.com.
