Żejtun Corinthians vs Sta Lucia to open 2020-21 Premier League

Żejtun Corinthians and Sta Lucia will kick off the 2020-21 Premier League on Saturday, September 19 as the Malta FA finally published the list of fixtures of the top-tier championship.

The Malta FA top-tier competitions, namely the BOV Premier League and the BOV Challenge League, will get under way next week behind closed doors and under a strict medical protocol due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The opening day of the season will be played between September 19 and September 21 and the most eye-catching change in the kick-off times is the longer gap between one match and another in the same venue.

In fact, the Malta FA announced that there will be a two-hour break between one match and the other.

“The extended gap between the two fixtures on the same matchday is necessary to allow sufficient time for the sanitisation of the dressing rooms and other facilities,” the Malta FA said.

The opening programme will see Żejtun Corinthians facing Sta Lucia at the Centenary Stadium at 5pm with Mosta taking on Gudja United at 9.15pm.

On Sunday, September 20 four matches will be played. Lija Athletic face Senglea Athletic at 5pm at the Centenary Stadium, followed by Sliema Wanderers vs Hibernians at 9.15pm.

On the otherhand, Tarxien Rainbows play Balzan at 5pm at the National Stadium while Floriana open their title defence against Gżira United at 9.15pm.

Matchday 1 will be completed on Monday, September 21 when Ħamrun Spartans face Sirens at the National Stadium at 5pm before Valletta face Birkirkara at 9.15pm.
