Hungarian giants had a player testing positive ahead of trip
Hungarian side Fehervar arrived in Malta on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League tie against Hibernians and all members of the first team squad and technical staff were forced to under go COVID-19 swab tests, the Times of Malta can reveal.
On Monday, Fehervar announced that a member of their first-team squad had tested positive for COVID-19 while coach Gabor Marton still made the trip to Malta despite having an unclear result in his swab test.
Hibernians host Fehervar in the second qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday at the Centenary Stadium.
Sources have told the Times of Malta that upon their arrival in Malta, the Fehervar squad was stopped by the Maltese health authorities at the airport to undergo a swab test.
The request was initially not accepted by the Hungarian officials who said that the UEFA protocol didn’t say that they had to under go another test on arrival since their squad had tested negative before their trip to Malta.
However, after a prolonged debate, the Fehervar officials finally accepted that the team would under go the test.
Once the swab testing was finished, the Fehervar players were whisked to their hotel where they are expected to remain in isolation until the Health Authorities will publish their results in the coming hours.
Once the Fehervar squad receive the green light by the Maltese Health Authorities, they will be able to continue their schedule.
In fact, the Hungarian side are scheduled to host an online press conference at 6.45pm and then conduct a training session at the Centenary Stadium at 7pm.
