Valletta FC player tests positive for COVID-19

City’s match against Gżira United to go ahead as planned

A Valletta FC player has tested positive for COVID-19, the Times of Malta can confirm.

Sources have told the Times of Malta that the player underwent a swab test the day after the team’s 1-0 win over Balzan at the National Stadium on Saturday and resulted as positive.

As soon as the result of the test was published, the Malta FA medical team immediately stepped in and conducted the mandatory contract tracing to see who were in close contact with the player to ensure they will too go into quarantine.

This is the first positive result in the BOV Premier League since the championship got under way earlier this month.

Valletta are scheduled to face Gżira United in another Premier League match on Wednesday, but the match is in now way in danger of being postponed.

In fact, according to the Malta FA rules regarding COVID-19 cases, a match will not be postponed unless a team does not have 16 players available for the match.
