Swieqi United bounced back to winning ways to defeat Kirkop United in a six-goal thrilling encounter which the Oranges won 4-2.
This win enabled Swieqi to move to second place on 16 points, one point ahead of Birkirkara who have three games in hand.
The Stripes, on their part, faced Mosta over the last weekend as they started to recuperate their missing games.
Led by Melania Bajada, Birkirkara won 7-0 win a Veronique Mifsud brace and goals from Ann-Marie Said, Tracy Teuma and Raina Giusti. Youngsters Ileana Farrugia and Izabella Camilleri netted their maiden senior goals to wrap up the high-scoring win for the Stripes.
Birkirkara will be in action again on Saturday when they face Mosta before rubbing shoulders with Kirkop, next Tuesday in the final meeting of the women’s league for this calendar year.
Swieqi had to cancel a one-goal deficit in the second half as at the break they were trailing 2-1 with clinical forward Rodianne Zerafa grabbing both goals for Kirkop to reach the 10-goal tally this season, with the Oranges finding the net through a Celine Galea own goal.
Goals from Dorianne Theuma, Chloe Ann Ellul and Jade Flask propelled Swieqi to 4-2 result and three valuable points to move back into second place.
Meanwhile, leaders Mġarr saw off Raiders Għargħur 4-0 with Francesca Chircop scoring a hat-trick as she leads the league top scorer list with 12 goals. Skipper Brenda Borg was the other scorer for the Greens.
Elsewhere, Mosta collected their second win of the season after beating bottom side Mtarfa 3-0, with Yulya Carella, Shania Borg and Leah Ayres listing their name on the scoresheet for the Blues.
