Argentine striker Iriberri released by Ħamrun Spartans

Ħamrun Spartans have decided to part ways with Argentine striker Imanol Iriberri.

The 33-year-old forward joined the Spartans this summer after he left Hibernians but he failed to leave his mark with the Reds.

In fact, Iriberri only managed to make five appearances for the Spartans this season and has yet to score his first goal this season.

Iriberri is the second forward that left the Spartans in the January transfer window after Brazilian striker Marcelo Barbosa ended his loan stint at the club to return at Nadur Youngsters.

The Spartans have already signed Moroccan forward Soufiane Lagzir this month and as reported by the Times of Malta on Malta, they are expecting the arrival of former Roma striker Seidou Doubia.

The 33-year-old forward is expected to start a trial with the club and if he leaves a good impression he is set to sign until at least the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Iriberri could yet remain in Maltese football as it is understood that the Argentine could well return to his former club Hibernians who are looking to sign a striker.

The Paolites have parted ways with Rundell Winchester earlier this month and are mulling whether to retain the services of Lithuanian striker Karolis Laukzemis.

A final decision on the Lithuanian international will be made by the end of this week.
