Holders Balzan face Mosta in FA Trophy

Five all-Premier League ties drawn in Last 32

Holders Balzan were drawn to face Mosta as the draws of the third round of the FA Trophy were held on Thursday.

With the FA Trophy having been not held last season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Balzan FC are the last team who have lifted the coveted trophy after winning a thrilling final against Valletta in 2019 on a penalty shoot-out after the match had ended in a 4-4 draw after extra-time.

The clash between Balzan and Mosta is one of five all-Premier League ties that were drawn in the third round on Thursday as all seeded sides were paired with top-flight opposition.

Malta champions Floriana were handed a tricky draw when they were paired against Santa Lucia, one of the positive revelations in this season’s Premier League.

On the other hand, Valletta will be up against Gudja United while Hibernians were handed a derby tie when they face Żejtun Corinthians.

The other all-Premier League tie will see Birkirkara take on Lija Athletic.

Ħamrun Spartans, the current Premier League leaders, and Senglea Athletic, will both be heading to the ‘Sister Island’ as the Reds were drawn to face Sannat Lions while the Cottonera side will be up against Gozitan champions Nadur Youngsters.
