Mosta goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi was named goalkeeper of the year by Congo’s main sports website, DRCPF.
Mafoumbi, 26, was also part of the Top 11 Congo players of 2020 as well alongside Player of the Year Mavis Tchibota of Bulgarian champions Ludogorets.
This award reflects the positive moment that the goalkeeper is going through at Mosta, from which the Blues are also reaping the fruits as they are one on most in-form sides of the top-flight.
After 15 games, Mosta are currently fourth on 26 points with Mafoumbi playing nine of those games. Eight of those nine games were victories including four clean sheets, making him one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season.
One of Mafoumbi’s main characteristics is his ability with his feet, with an average of 31 short passes and 11 long passes per match according to InStat which enables Mosta to have an organised build-up from the back most of the time.
The Congo goalkeeper joined Mosta only in October after his spells in England at Blackpool and Morecambe. He also featured in Bulgaria (FK Vereya), France (Le Pontent and Lens) and South Africa (FS Stars).
At international level, Mafoumbi has collected 19 caps for Congo and he was in goal for his nation’s latest double-header against Eswatini as they seek Africa Cup qualification. Their next games will be against Senegal and Guinea-Bissau on March 22 and March 30 respectively.
