Birkirkara FC have issued a statement to clarify the situation regarding their transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.
The Stripes are one of three Premier League clubs who are prohibited from signing any players in the final days of the January transfer window following a ruling by the world governing body of football following a complaint by an unnamed player.
“Following on from the news circulating in the media regarding the FIFA transfer ban the club would like to clarify this issue for the benefit of all those concerned,” the club said in a statement.
“The issue refers to a player signed by the club three years ago who was brought to Malta on the advice of the coach of the club at the time. The respective player was sent home after only one week after it was evidently apparent that he was not able to perform to the level required.
“He subsequently signed the relative documents of his termination and compensation. The player in question wrote to FIFA and was dishonest to claim that he never signed the relative documents and was awarded monetary compensation.
“The club has been through all legal avenues and continues to do so for justice to be done.
“We would like to ensure our loyal supporters that this issue shall be tackled at the right time and in a correct way, and nothing shall stand in our way with how we are operating and are fully focused as one family on the challenges that lie ahead on the pitch. The truth shall always prevail.”
Senglea Athletic and Sliema Wanderers are the other two clubs who have a transfer ban from FIFA.
