Floriana must solve some issues before I accept to return, says coach Potenza

Vincenzo Potenza is ready to return to Floriana FC as first-team coach but will only accept the job if certain issues are resolved by the club’s top hierarchy, the Italian told The Times of Malta on Friday.

This week, it has been reported that Potenza could make a dramatic return to Floriana FC following the resignation of John Buttigieg as first-team coach.

The former Malta coach stepped down from his job on Thursday following the Greens 3-1 defeat to Sta Lucia in the FA Trophy.

Contacted by the Times of Malta, Potenza confirmed that he has been in talks with Floriana FC official Johann Said over a possible return with the Greens but he said that he will only accept the job if a number of issues at the club are resolved.

“It’s true that Floriana FC have been in touch with me to return to my job as first-team coach,” Potenza told The Times of Malta.

“I had a lengthy conversation with Johann Said and I made it clear to him that I will only return to the club if a number of issues are resolved.

“When I resigned from the club earlier this season, there were a number of things that I had asked the club to take care of which unfortunately were not resolved. Now, these issues have increased and I told Floriana that I will only return if the majority of these issues are tackled.

“My love for Floriana FC has never diminished and I was really hurt to move away from the club but I felt that in those circumstances it was the right decision to do.

“I just hope that things improve at the club as I would love to help the club come out of this difficult situation.”
