Coach Knights will be replacing Keith Gouder – who had been at the club for the past five seasons – at the helm of the Oranges as they look to improve on what they have built in recent years in order to remain competitive and challenge for domestic silverware.
The English coach has been involved in football for the past 20 years, in both male and female sectors.
In the women’s game, he was recently coach at Bolton Wanderers Ladies whom he guided in a friendly match against Malta back in 2019.
Speaking to the Swieqi United’s official channels, Knights indicated that friendly as a sliding doors for him to come and coach in Malta.
“The standard is high and the game is progressing very well, you only have to look at the rapid progression of the national team to see this,” Knights said in the statement.
“I have been approached by a few clubs recently but the setup at Swieqi, speaking to the president and the Technical Directors along watching countless games over the last 12 months convinved me that Swieqi was the right for me. The challenge excites me.”
