Spartans suffer blow as Corbalan out for two to three weeks due to injury

Ħamrun Spartans suffered an injury blow after wing back Juan Corbalan was ruled for two to three weeks with a muscle injury, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The Malta wing back had been a regular starter for the Spartans this season but suffered a muscle injury in training last week and was forced to miss out on the team’s 1-0 defeat to Balzan on Sunday.

This week, Corbalan underwent a scan and the Spartans medical team informed the player that he will have to sit out of action for at least two to three weeks.

This means that Corbalan is likely to miss out Ħamrun Spartans’ next Premier League match against Floriana as well as the national team’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia at the National Stadium and the trip to Cyprus next month.

The injury to Corbalan is another blow for coach Mark Buttigieg who has lost another key player in his bid to revive the team’s fortunes after an indifferent start to the season.

At present, the Spartans are already without key midfielder Matthew Guillaumier while Serbian midfielder Predrag Djordjevic is still short of full fitness.

Tunisian attacking midfielder Faissal El Bakhtouli is another player in the club’s treatment room as he is nursing a calf injury.
