MOC to hold Executive Board Elections on Tuesday

The Maltese Olympic Committee will be electing a new Executive Board during the Annual General Meeting at its headquarters in Tal-Qroqq on Tuesday.

Delegates from the 52 affiliated federations will convene on Tuesday evening to form the Executive Board for the next four years.

President Julian Pace Bonello and general secretary Joe Cassar will be facing a poll to retain their posts four another term in office.

In fact, Pace Bonello is being contested by Dr Kirill Micallef Stafrace while Cassar is facing the challenge of Kevin Azzopardi.

Pace Bonello had been at the helm of the Maltese Olympic Committee since 2013 when on that occasion he replaced the late former president Lino Farrugia Sacco who did not seek re-election.

Dr Micallef Stafrace is already part of the MOC Executive Committee as he is currently serving the post of chairman of the Medical Commission.

On the other hand, Cassar, who has been part of the MOC Executive for more than three decades, will be seeking one final term but is contested by Kevin Azzopardi.

Azzopardi is a former football referee but during the last few years, he has been working in Maltese sport in the role of Education Officer (Physical Education) within the Ministry of Education.

Paul Sultana, the Malta Basketball Association president, is uncontested for the post of Deputy vice-president.

The post was previously filled by William Beck who has decided not to seek re-election.

David Azzopardi is set to be reconfirmed as the Director of Finance as he is uncontested.

As regards the other executive directors, Dr Lucienne Attard, Maria Vella Galea and Johanna Grech are set to retain their place while there is going to be a new face as Nigel McCarthy has submitted his nomination.
