Ħamrun Spartans have lodged an appeal against the three-match suspension incurred by their striker Faissal El Bakhtaoui following his dismissal in last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Hibernians in the BOV Premier League.
The French forward was shown a straight red card by referee Slobodan Petrovic for kicking Hibernians midfielder Dunstan Vella five minutes from half-time.
El Bakhtaoui was severely punished by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner who handed a three-match ban to the Spartans forward for violent play.
However, the Spartans are contesting this decision as they are describing this ruling as very harsh against El Bakhtaoui who in their view was provoked by the Hibernians midfielder.
At present, El Bakhtaoui is banned from donning the Spartans shirt in their next three Premier League matches against Sta Lucia, on Sunday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Sliema Wanderers, on December 5, and against Valletta on December 11.
The Spartans’ complaint is expected to be heard by the Malta FA’s Appeals Board next week.
