Ħamrun Spartans have received no offers over Guillaumier, Menez swap deal – club

Ħamrun Spartans have denied reports that they are close to reaching an agreement to sign France international Jeremy Menez from Italian side Reggina in an exchange deal that would see midfielder Matthew Guillaumier head to the Serie B side on loan until the end of the season.

Reports in the Italian media on Thursday night said that Jeremy Menez was on his way to joining Ħamrun Spartans from Reggina.

The former Roma and Milan forward has fallen out of favour at the Italian Serie B side and areport on the gianlucadimarzio.com said that Ħamrun Spartans and Reggina were on the verge of agreeing a deal that would see Menez move to the Malta champions on loan with Guillaumier head in the other direction on the same formula.

However, when contacted by the Times of Malta, Marcel Bonnici, the Spartans chief executive said that the club had not committed to any deal and the move is being pushed by an intermediary who works for the Serie B side Reggina.

“This idea of swapping Matthew Guillaimier with Jeremy Menez is being pushed by a football intermediary who works floreale for Reggina,” Bonnici told the Times of Malta.

“Up to now Hamrun Spartans are simply observers and have received no concrete offers or proposals.

“We will evaluate if and when we are faced with a decision. As things stand today Guillaimier is a player and captain of Ħamrun Spartans.

“Decisions will always be taken in the interest of the Club as has always been the case under the President Joseph Portelli. Information will be emanated if and when there is anything to communicate.

“And up to now there is nothing to comment about or decide upon.”
