Reds contend Stripes broke non-homegrown players registration quota
Ħamrun Spartans have lodged a protest against the result of Wednesday’s Premier League match against Birkirkara.
However, on Thursday, the Spartans have filed a protest at the Malta FA offices as they contend that the Stripes had 13 overseas players registered for the match, one more than the regulations of the local governing body of football stipulate.
In fact, according to the MFA regulations state that “Premier Division Clubs may not have registered with them at any one moment during the season more than twelve (12) players who have not formed part of the Youth Sector of the Association and who have attained eighteen (18) years of age before the 1st of January prior to the commencement of the season.”
On Monday, Birkirkara signed goalkeeper Julani Archibald on loan from Sta Lucia and the St Kitts and Nevis international was among the substitutes for Wednesday’s match.
Last week, the Stripes also signed Ghana forward Bismark Ngissah and took Nigerian winger Johnson Nsumoh on loan from Mosta FC.
No date, has been set when the appeal will be heard in front of the Protests’ Board.
