Haley Bugeja’s Sassuolo, Milan fire blanks in women’s Serie A

Published on

Haley Bugeja and her Sassuolo side managed to hold Milan to a 0-0 draw in the Serie A Femminile after the Neroverde had to play in 10 for 75 minutes.

Defender Benedetta Orsi was shown a straight red after flooring Lindsey Thomas outside the penalty area, denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity to the Milan forward.

Nonetheless, Sassuolo held their ground and managed to keep Milan’s attacks at bay to secure a vital point in view of their Women’s Champions League bid.

In fact, Sassuolo maintained their three-point distance from Milan with 35 points. They sit in second, at least for 24 hours, before third-place Roma – who are on 34 points – play on Sunday.

Bugeja, who was in the starting formation, played 55 minutes before being replaced by Alice Parisi.

Sassuolo’s next league commitment will be an away trip to Lazio, where Malta women team mates Bugeja and Rachel Cuschieri will take on each other.
