The thrilling action at the Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championships continued in St Paul’s Bay on Saturday. Perfect weather conditions were in store for the boats as they took to the water for the second day of competition.
In the morning, the Cyber Class kicked off with a thrilling race, even though the racing was less tight than that of the previous day. Team Bad Company’s Clive Butler lead the way throughout, making it his turn to fly the chequered flag.
The afternoon start proved to be another thrilling affair for the V2s. Shooting out at full throttle at the start Beppe Debono’s Freccia Blu took the lead with El Diablo hot on his heels, in what was a reversal of roles from Friday’s race.
Freccia Blu and El Diablo kept on chasing for the podium until the seventh lap when Race Control halted proceedings when Stephen Bezzina’s Cutting Edge capsizing due to a technical problem.
Once their safety was ascertained, Race Control declared the race as being completed since 70 per cent of the minimum race distance had already been covered.
“In those rare moments, when a boat capsizes, we all hold our breath. Thankfully all drivers are fully aware of the safety procedures and thus they were able to emerge unscathed,” said Aaron Ciantar, Voomquest Founder.
“Knowing that they are safe is a relief and we now look forward to tomorrow, the third and last day of this World Championship leg”.
The Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championships return on Sunday, with V2 racing starting at 3.30pm.
The Voomquest Enemed UIM V2 World Championship is held under the auspices of the world governing body UIM and is supported by Enemed, Yachting Malta, Malta Tourism Authority, Seaview Hotel, Chaudron Powerboats, Transport Malta, P&C Cauchi Demolition and Excavation, and St. Paul’s Bay Local Council.
