More medals for Team Malta at Island Games

On Day 3 of the Jeux des Iles (COJI) in Mallorca, Team Malta won more medals in gymnastics, swimming, table tennis and sailing.

The table tennis boys – Luke Bonello and Luke Fenech – had an unbeaten run on their road to gold, having won all their games against the Azores, the two Baleares teams and Sicily.

In sailing, Poyraz Fidanboy, Marianne Heller, Matthew Camilleri, Katie Muscat Frendo brought home a silver medal in the team event.

Some of the young sailors were on their first international event.

The Swimming team brought in a medal haul of 15 medals. 

Caine Schembri, who is also on his first international experience, brought a gold medal in the breaststroke.

Silver medals were won by Matthew Satariano (100m free), Luca Grixti (50m fly), Roanna Farrugia (200m fly), Sophia Allen (50m fly), Ella Fenech Attard 400m Individual Medley, Zea Caruana Garzia (50m back) and the 4x100m IM female team, made up of Julianne Woods, Sophia Allen, Ella Fenech Attard, Zea Caruana Garzia. 

Meanwhile, Julianne Woods (400m free), Zea Caruana Garzia (50m fly), Sophia Allen (100m breast 100m free) and the Boys relay team in the 4x100m Individual Medley – Luca Grixti, Caine Schembri, Matthew Satariano, Liam Rodenas took home bronze.

The swimming team’s performance saw the boys take second overall and an overall third place was achieved by the females.  

The gymnastics team also produced some very good results, with the team – Philippa Busuttil, Faith Anouk Cassar Fenech, Hannah Grech and Luana Curmi Inguanez taking silver in the team event. 

Philippa Busuttil took home a total of four medals. She won gold in Beam and All Around Individual events and bronze in the Floor and Uneven Bars. 

Faith Anouk Cassar Fenech won silver in Vault and Beam Events.
