BUPA Luxol have acquired their second US import player ahead of the new season in point guard Trevian Bell, club sources confirmed with the Times of Malta.

While the official announcement is due to be made, Luxol, who have already signed fellow US-native Tayler Mattos and Serbian guard Nick Vasovic, will now have three new players for the coming season as they look towards turning the page on what was a tough 2021-22 season for the side.

6’7 guard Bell will bring height to the table for coach Duncan Fenech this season as he replaces the departing Canaan Coffey (6’3). The latter had been the highlight of the Luxol team before his injury late last season, thus leaving Bell with big shoes to fill.

Ahead of his move to Luxol, Bell played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One with the Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix for three years, and Division Two with the Lewis Flyers in the 2020-21 season.

With the Flyers, he finished the season second in points scored at an average of 12.5 per game (44% from the field), and second in rebounds with 4.5.

The Illinois-based guard was close to playing his first professional season in the Netherlands last season where he was signed and announced by Apollo Amsterdam back in August 2021 but could not eventually join the team due to unforeseen circumstances. This makes his move to Luxol all the more special for the player who will now play basketball in Europe for the first time.

Through this summer’s signings, the club will be hoping to do better in the coming season in the Malta Division One after missing out on last season’s playoffs.
