Birkirkara FC are closing in on a major transfer coup as they have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian striker Maxuell Maia, from Gżira United, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Stripes have been working hard in the past weeks to find a prolific forward this summer and had set their sights on signing Maia from Gżira United.
Sources close to Birkirkara FC told the Times of Malta that after protracted negotiations with both the club and the player a deal was finally reached and the player is currently undergoing his medical ahead of his move to last season’s FA Trophy winners.
Once Maia passes his medical tests, he will sign the contract and become Birkirkara’s first new signing in this summer’s transfer window.
No doubt, the capture of Maia would be a great acquisition for Birkirkara who are keen to add more attacking reinforcements this summer ahead of their participation in the UEFA Conference League.
In Maia, Birkirkara are bringing in a prolific forward who has scored a lot of goals since arriving in Malta three years ago.
In fact, the Brazilian was brought to Malta by Santa Lucia in January 2020, before heading to Sirens FC the following summer.
In January 2021, Maia moved to Gżira United and forged a lethal scoring partnership with fellow compatriot Jefferson.
During his time with the Maroons, Maia made 68 appearances and scored 40 goals.
Meanwhile, Birkirkara are still trying to keep hold of Argentine forward Enzo Cabrera.
The 23-year-old forward enjoyed a great season with Birkirkara last season after he arrived at the club on loan from Newell’s Old Boys.
The player is now back in Argentina and the Stripes are hopeful of persuading his club to let him rejoin the club for the upcoming season.
