Watch: Floriana FC sign Greek striker Christos Rovas

Floriana FC have announced the signing of Greek striker Christos Rovas, the Times of Malta can reveal.

The Greens have been working hard during the January transfer window in a bid to step up their title challenge this season and had been on the lookout for a proven goalscorer.

Sources have told the Times of Malta that Floriana FC had identified Rovas as a major target and negotiations with the player where concluded and the 29-year-old joined the club with a deal until the end of the season.

It is understood that Rovas has been brought to Floriana FC on the insistence of coach Mauro Camoranesi who has worked with the player during his spell as coach at Slovenian side Tabor Sezana in 2020.

During that season, Rovas had managed to score nine goals in 28 appearances at the Slovenian side.

Rovas spent the majority of his career in Greece where he donned the colours of Pannaxiako, Ionikos Nikeas and Apollon 192 among others.

His most prolific season was in season 2021/22 when he left Slovenian football to return to his homeland and join Division Two side Almopos where he managed to score 20 goals in 30 appearances.

The following season he left Almopos and joined Super League Two side PS Kalamata with whom he scored 12 goals in 27 appearances in his first season.

This season, Rovas made ten appearances with the club before deciding to reunite with his former coach Camoranesi at Floriana FC.

Rovas is Floriana’s fourth signing this month after the Greens signed Cape Verde forward Willis Furtado, Serbian goalkeeper Nemanja Andrijanic and attacking midfielder Jake Grech who arrived at the club in exchange with Jan Busuttil.

Rovas could make his debut for Floriana against Birkirkara on Saturday.
