Maltese rhythmic gymnasts compete in 2024 Miss Valentine in Estonia

Three Maltese rhythmic gymnasts have recently competed at the prestigious Miss Valentine competition that was held in Tartu, Estonia.

Lauren Agius, Therese Amelie Vassallo, and Chezonelle Georgette Vassallo made the trip to Estonia to compete in the prestigious tournament that attracted over 400 gymnasts from 45 countries that included Finland, United States, Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Sweden, Bulgaria, and England.

The Maltese gymnasts represented the Malta Gymnastics Association and were accompanied by Ritmica Club director and coach Elena Vella.

The competition, which was celebrating its 30th edition, attracted some of the world’s top performers in the sport, with countries like Lithuania fielding their top three gymnasts in the competition.

The Maltese contingent had no judge officiating in this competition contrary to other countries who had four judges in the panel per team.

Agius competed in the 2010 age group that attracted no less than 30 gymnasts.

Agius’ best performance came in the clubs’ event where she managed to score 17.000 and place ahead Canada’s Sabrina Zhao and Abigail Liang, Nikol Mateikova, of Bulgaria, Olga Bosnaki, of Bosnia and Briton Nikollaj Adriana.

Agius scored 17.650 in the hoop event to finish ahead of Canada’s Sabrina Zhao and Aglaya Triputen, of Serbia.

In the ball, Agius managed a score of 15.550 in ball. Those performances earned her a total score of 50.200.

Chezonelle Georgette Azzopardi competed in the 2012 class where she managed a total score of 30.350 points.

Azzopardi scored 14.533 in hoops and 15.817 in ball, where she got called in the international ranking, placing seventh.

Amelie Therese Vassallo competed in the 2009 age group where she managed a total score of 51.217 after scoring 17.517 in hoops, 16.900 in ball, and 16.800 in clubs.
