Ħamrun Ħanin collects €12,000 for Multi Sensory Room

Jacob Fava has designed the unique football shirt donned by Ħamrun Spartans during their FA Trophy quarter-final match against Birkirkara.

Ħamrun Ħanin, the social arm of Premier League champions Ħamrun Spartans, has managed to collect €12,000 for its campaign to set up a Multi Sensory Room in Ħamrun.

The Voluntary Organisation, which is managed independently from the Premier League club, has been working hard in the past weeks to try and collect enough funds to set up a Multi Sensory Room for autistic children and their parents.

On the occasion of the World Autism Day, which was celebrated on April 2, Ħamrun Ħanin, in collaboration with the Autistic Parents Organisation, organised a unique event on March 27 when they created a unique football shirt which the Ħamrun Spartans players donned during the FA Trophy quarter-final against Birkirkara.

The football shirt worn by all the players of Ħamrun Spartans was put on auction by the club with all the proceeds going for setting up the Multi Sensory Room.

Added to the club fans were given the opportunity to buy this unique shirt while some fundraising activities were held.

Contacted by the Times of Malta Ian Debattista, chairman of Ħamrun Ħanin, was delighted that this initiative turned out to be a great success.

“I am proud with what we have managed to achieve with this occasion,” Debattista said.

“As Ħamrun Ħanin it is our mission statement to try and help persons in need and this was a cause that held special significance for us. I would like to thank Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli and club CEO Marcel Bonnici for their unwavering support for this project.

“I am also grateful to all the club committee members, members of the technical staff and the players for giving their contribution for this cause and creating unforgettable memories for the autistic children that were involved in the event.

“I hope that other clubs in Malta will start to contribute in social responsibility as we believe that football is a huge tool to make a difference in the life of people in need.”
