On Sunday, November 24, the Island Car Club organised the 7th round of the National Hillclimb Championship at the scenic hill of Baħrija.
This round was a battleground for the drivers, each fighting tooth and nail for points to win their class, with only one round left in the 2024 season.
The overall winner of the seventh round was Mark Micallef, a seasoned driver known for his skill and precision, with his V8 Radical.
Christian Azzopardi, a seasoned tuner and drag racer is a rising star in the Hillclimb community, and Terence Vella, a veteran driver with a wealth of experience, followed closely behind.
The fastest in classes were, – Joseph Cutajar (Rear Wheel Drive Class), Gabriel Sammut (Front Wheel Drive Class), Joseph Calleja (Four Wheel Drive Class), Isaac Burlo (Classic Cars Class), – Joseph Calleja (Street Class), Graziella Zahra Micallef (Female Driver), Silvio Sciberras (Over 60 Drivers), Calvin Lee Mifsud (U-25 drivers), Charles Cutajar (Guest Class).
Although there was the possibility that during round 7, the overall championship would have been closed mathematically, the race for this year’s title will be decided in the eighth and final round.
This will be held on Sunday, December 1 at Mtaħleb.
At present, Christian Azzopardi is leading the way on 45 points, five clear of Terence Vella while Mark Micallef is third on 35 points.
The championship is being sponsored by England Insurance, Enemed, Welbee’s Supermarket, The Point and MeDirect.
