This has been a successful week on an individual level for two Maltese internationals playing abroad, Aaron Falzon and Nelson Kahler, who both scored double digits in their latest game. The Times of Malta’s Sportsdesk looks at Falzon, Kahler, and other Maltese professionals plying their trade overseas in another segment of ‘Maltese abroad’.
FRANCE
Despite their very close defeat to La Rochelle – final score 65-62, Malta’s Aaron Falzon was the leading scorer for Etoile Angers on Friday evening as he scored 12 points in around 21 minutes of play, while also grabbing three boards.
This comes in contrast to his previous game in the French Cup against Orleans when he only managed three points in 16 minutes as the team lost 90-68 at home.
Etoile Angers play their next game against Union Tours Basket on Friday (Tip off: 8PM)
AUSTRALIA
In-form forward Nelson Kahler was beneficial to his side Sunshine Coast Phoenix yet again with another double-double, this time in the Quarter-final of the QSL Men Division One against Southern District Spartans on Saturday.
He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 boards as the team went on to win 107-96.
Kahler was on fire shooting the ball, scoring eight out of 10 shots taken, and achieving an 80% field-goal percentage. He also managed four blocks and two steals which add to his eight defensive rebounds to show his defensive power during the game on Saturday – their first in this season’s finals so far.
ITALY
Kurt Cassar scored six points in Pallacanestro Orzinuovi’s 85-79 loss to Stings Mantova in the A2 Supercup on Sunday (tip off: 5.30PM).
While Cassar has not had a lot of minutes on court as yet this season, he has started to make up for it with his effort on and off the ball during Sunday’s game.
