The Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) season got underway when the first leg of the Honda Motocross National Championship on Sunday.
For the 2020-21 season opener 30 competitors registered to take part and were split into four categories.
The Motocross committee announced that this season there will be three national championships, one for Expert Riders, which has been organised for the past 35 years, the veterans class, which features Over-40 riders and has been hosted for the past three years, and the Junior Riders category of for U-16 participants.
In Class A, there were ten motorcyclists on the starting line with Kyle Camilleri, on board a KTM, dominating the day, topping both rounds held.
In the overall standings, Camilleri finished ahead of Bernard Sammut (Beta) and Paul Muscat (KTM).
Seven riders were at the start of the Class B with Aidan Camilleri, on a Huqsvarna, cruising to victory in both races held on the day. James Mamo (Yamaha) placed second overall ahead of Krist Falzon (Husqvarna).
In the veteran’s category, five riders registered to take part with Paul Deguara, on his KTM, victorious in both races that were held.
Deguara finished ahead of Jethro Sant (Yamaha) in the first race while Arthur Micallef (Sherco) was the runner-up in the second.
In the final standings, Deguara finished ahead of Micallef and Sant.
Six riders were on the starting line in the juniors class with Burien Grima (KTM) managing to bag victory in both races held when he placed ahead of Liam Borg in the opening race and Jose Azzopardi in the final run of the day.
In the overall standings, Grima topped the charts ahead of Borg and Azzopardi.
The ASMK will resume on Sunday when the ASMK Pasta Poiatti Autocross Championship will get underway.
