Leaders Birkirkara extended their unbeaten run to 11 games this season as Mġarr United came from behind to defeat Kirkop United in the highlight game from Match Day 13 of the Women’s League.
Led by Melania Bajada, Birkirkara broke little sweat to defeat a young Mosta side 15-0 to reach 33 points in the championship. The Stripes were without forward Christabel Oduro who is set to leave the club.
Raina Giusti scored five goals to move to 15 goals, remaining third in the top scorer list behind Kirkop’s Rodianne Zerafa (16) and Francesca Chircop of Mġarr (18). Alishia Sultana was also on fine form, scoring three goals to make it nine goals this season, alongside Veronique Mifsud who grabbed a brace herself.
Tracy Teuma, Ann-Marie Said and Ileana Farrugia scored one each as well as Mariah Sciberras and Martina Cortis who were registering their first goals in this campaign.
Mġarr cancelled a one-goal deficit to defeat Kirkop 2-1 and move into second place on 25 points, joining Swieqi United.
It was forward Zerafa who put the Reds ahead after two minutes before Mġarr levelled terms through Abigail Camilleri. The Greens forged ahead in the second-half through Chircop to secure their eighth win of the season.
Roxanne Micallef made her Kirkop debut in this game after swapping Mġarr for the Reds, while Aleksandra Georgieva was making her second appearance for Kirkop having joined from Swieqi.
Elsewhere, Raiders Għargħur chalked up their second straight win after beating Mtarfa 6-0.
Maya Lucia had three assists and scored one herself, with Anna Aloisio grabbing a brace. The other goals were scored by Sarah Caruana, Leanne Micallef – her fifth of the season, club’s top scorer – and Yana Scicluna, on her debut game. Aimee Grech Bonnici also made her seniot debut in this game after Alicia Mifsud’s maiden game on this stage, last week.
