Steve D’Amato has been appointed as the new coach of Tarxien Rainbows, the Premier League club announced in a statement.
The Rainbows have been working hard in the last few days to install a new coach after Winston Muscat stepped down from his job following the team’s catastrophic 7-0 defeat to Sta Lucia last weekend.
The former Ħamrun Spartans coach had been touted as the favourite for the jobs and held talks with the Rainbows top hierarchy in the last few days before an agreement was finally reached on Thursday.
“Coach Steve D’Amato is set to take over the reins of the first-team after putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract,” the Rainbows said in a statement.
“D’Amato surely needs no introduction in Maltese football as in the past he was at the helm of several clubs, including Ħamrun Spartans, Senglea Athletic and Sirens.
“We will every success to Steve with our club.”
D’Amato started the season with Sirens after last season he led the St Paul’s Bay side to an historic qualification to the Europa League qualifiers.
However, D’Amato lost his job late last year after a string of inconsistent results from Sirens.
D’Amato is expected to make his debut on the Tarxien bench when they face Senglea Athletic on Saturday at the Centenary Stadium.
