While many of the Maltese players abroad were absent from playing for covid reasons amongst others, Malta forward Aaron Falzon and center Sam Deguara added to their tally with double-digit games last week. The Times of Malta Sportsdesk looks at Falzon and other Maltese professionals plying their trade overseas in another segment of ‘Maltese Abroad’.
UK
Aaron Falzon scored ten points off the bench in midweek as the Leicester Riders beat the Newcastle Eagles 83-75. Falzon spent around 14 minutes on court and apart from his scoring, he assisted another, grabbed three boards, and made a steal.
Later in the Sunday game, another win – 77-91 – against the Manchester Giants, he played around 15 minutes off the bench, scoring four while grabbing five boards and made two assists.
The Leicester Riders face the Worchester Wolves on Friday and Sunday in their next two games.
JAPAN
Sam Deguara got close to the 30-point mark last weekend as he scored 27 points in 18 minutes as the Tokyo Excellence beat the Iwate Big Bulls 95-78 on Saturday. Deguara also got nine rebounds, an assist and blocked two shots.
The next day, Deguara was back with another 15 points in around 25 minutes. This time he grabbed six boards and made another two blocks as the side lost 66-90.
The Tokyo Excellence face the same side for another double header this weekend.
ITALY
Kurt Cassar was out of Janus Fabriano’s game against JESI last week due to COVID-19 protocol. However, following a covid-19 test, Cassar has been cleared to return.
