Watch: Ħamrun Spartans submit Tedesco Stadium application to authorities

Ħamrun Spartans have submitted their applications for the Victor Tedesco Stadium project to SportMalta and the Lands Department which they hope will give the club around 1.5 million euros in revenue every year.

Speaking during an interview on the club’s radio show on 105FM, Joseph Portelli, the Ħamrun Spartans president, said that work on the project has now reached an advanced stage and he is hopeful that it will not be long before they will unveil their plans to the media.

Hamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli gives details on his Tedesco Stadium plans.

“Our plans for the project have reached an advanced stage,” Portelli said.

“All the architectural drawings of the project have now been completed and we have now submitted our plans to a private company to complete the financing of the project.

“Had this been a personal project, I don’t think that I would have taken so much time to do it. The reason for that is that I cannot do a project that in the future could provide a huge financial burden to the club.

“When I came to Ħamrun Spartans my ambition was to put the club on a solid financial position that would not require someone like me to inject money into the club but will have a structure that is capable of leaving around 1.5 million euros in revenue every year, and I think that this project will fulfil this objective.”

Asked to give details to this project, Portelli refused to delve into details.

“It’s still not time to give specific details of the project as this will be done when we will launch, hopefully in the near future,” Portelli said.

“However, what I can say that this project is not as big as it was planned at the start. When we were working on the Project Concept, everytime we made a massive project it didnt’t yield any revenue so we resized our plans to a smaller scale as at the end of the day we are in Malta and our population is what it is.

“What I can say is that the Tedesco Stadium, that was built by our former president Victor Tedesco, will be renovated into a far more beautiful stadium with bigger stands.”
