Ħamrun Spartans set for pre-season training camp in Austria – Joseph Portelli

Ħamrun Spartans are planning to take the team to a training camp in Austria as part of their preparations for the new season, club president Joseph Portelli announced on Thursday.

The Spartans are currently on cloud nine at the moment after they were declared as the new league champions after the 2020-21 season was brought to a halt by the Malta FA Executive Committee due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the club’s top hierarchy have already started their preparations for the new season and Portelli announced that they are planning to send the team to a training camp abroad.

“We have already started working to prepare the team for next season and our goal is to continue to build on the competitive team we have already have,” Portelli said.

“Apart from that we are also planning to give the team a perfect platform to amalgamate for the new season and our plan is to send the team to a training camp which in all probability will be held in Austria.”

On the other hand, the Ħamrun Spartans president said that apart from bring in valuable players in the off-season he is also looking to strengthen his technical staff to ensure the team can fill all the gaps there were.

“I want to make it clear that I am happy with the technical staff we have, particularly with our coach Mark Buttigieg towards whom I have a lot of faith right from the start of the season. But if we are to have a solid set-up to be competitive when facing overseas teams, we need to strengthen our set-up.

“At the moment there are some missing links in our set up and I am determined to fill them all and I have planned a 100,000 euro budget to bring in the right people.

“Added to that we are working on strengthening the team and we are working hard to ensure that we bring in the right players that will help our team.”
