Justin Haber and Martin Davis the only players to leave club in January
Gżira United have issued a statement to rebuff speculation that they are set for a squad overhaul during the January transfer window following the departure of defender Steve Borg.
The Maroons earlier this week announced that they had accepted Steve Borg’s request to leave the club during the January transfer window as the Malta international is set to join Ħamrun Spartans in the coming weeks.
However, Gżira United said that contrary to speculation the only other players from the first team that will leave the club are Martin Davis, who is set to be loaned out, and goalkeeper Justin Haber who will leave in search of regular football.
“The Club would like to declare that after Steve Borg’s departure, on the player’s own request, all other established First-Team players will remain at the club,” the club said in its statement.
“The only 2 players available on the market are Club Legend Justin Haber who requested an indefinite transfer and Martin Davies on a loan basis, both to play more regularly.
“All other players are off the transfer market. On the other hand, the Club is working so that the Coach has a good squad eligible for the first match in January, which will enable us to compete again for the highest places in the league table.
“We had a difficult start to the season due to a lot of factors, including long-term injuries. However, the Club has full faith that the players will once again rise to the occasion.”
