The second edition of the VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy will take place at the Tony Bezzina Stadium between the 16th and 22nd February, 2022.

This year’s tournament will feature the participation of three national teams, namely Malta, Moldova and Morocco.
MFA SportsPlus Limited are overseeing the organisation of this tournament which was held for the first time last year with Sweden, the Tokyo Olympics finalists, winning the inaugural edition.
“Following the successful organisation of the Tipsport Malta Cup 2022 in January, we are very pleased to be hosting the second edition of the VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy,” Helmut Amhof, on behalf of MFA SportsPlus Limited, said.
“Organising an international tournament in the current circumstances is very challenging but we are happy that Moldova and Morocco have accepted our invitation to take part in this year’s tournament as part of their winter training camp in Malta.
The VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy is also beneficial for the development of the Malta women’s national team as it gives them the opportunity to play two high-level matches against foreign opposition.
“We would like to convey our appreciation to the Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Football Association for their continued support which is essential for us to organise these international events.”
Carlo Micallef, Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), said: “It is positive to see that Malta is hosting the second international football tournament in less than a month.
The VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy not only complements our commitment to attract sports teams to choose Malta as their training camp destination, especially during the winter months, it also supports the efforts of our sports associatons and teams, in this case the women’s football national team who will be involved in two international friendlies on home soil.”
The 2022 VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy kicks off on Wednesday, February 16 when Malta, led by coach Mark Gatt, take on Moldova at 4pm.
Malta, ranked 95th in the latest FIFA Women’s Ranking, will be using the VisitMalta Women’s International Trophy to boost their preparations for their upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Group E qualifying matches, at home to Denmark and Russia on April 8 and April 12, 2022.
The 100th-ranked Moldova will also resume their FIFA Women’s World Cup Group G campaign in April with home matches against Croatia and Lithuania.
