Giovanni Tedesco has been appointed as the new coach of Birkirkara FC, the Premier League club announced.
The Stripes have been on look-out of a new coach after they parted ways with Dutchman Andre Paus with only three matches left from the end of the BOV Premier League season.
Once the season finished, Birkirkara made an approach to Tedesco, whose contract with Sta Lucia also expired at the end of the campaign.
Talks moved swiftly before an agreement was reached that has seen Tedesco put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option of another year.
For Tedesco, this will be his second spell at Birkirkara FC with whom he experienced some great satisfactions.
In fact, the Italian took over at Birkirkara in season 2014-15 and was the architecht of a dream run in the Europa League qualifiers in 2015.
In fact with Tedesco at the helm, Birkirkara ousted Armenian side FC Ulisses 3-1 on aggregate and then came agonisingly close to eliminating English Premier League side West Ham United.
In fact, after a 1-0 defeat in London, the Stripes levelled the tie with a 1-0 win at the National Stadium, only to bow out with a penalty shoot-out.
Tedesco is expected to start working on his new squad as of Thursday and the Italian is expected to rejuvenate the squad that last season failed to secure a place in the UEFA club competitions as they could only finish fifth in the Premier League.
