Balzan’s transfer activity continues as they announce the arrival of experienced goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.
Debono, 36, has been a lynchpin inside Sirens’ team last season as they managed to retain their Premier League status.
The Maltese goalkeeper played 21 Premier League games for the St Paul’s Bay-based club and his remarkable performances propelled him to be named as MFPA Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2021/2022 season.
Throughout his career, Debono has played with several local clubs including Floriana, Ħamrun Spartans, Gudja United and Mosta.
“We are really delighted to sign a goalkeeper of Jonathan Debono’s calibre,” club president Anton Tagliaferro said in an official statement.
“We continue to reinforce our squad for what we hope will be a much better season in 2022/2023 than the previous seasons.”
Debono’s arrival comes just a day after former Malta U-21’s Aidan Friggieri moved to Balzan despite being close to sign with Ħamrun Spartans during this transfer window.
