Marlon Attard has just missed out on a place in the skeet final at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria, on Wednesday.
The Maltese shooter produced a solid showing throughout the two-day competition and was seen as an outsider for a place on the podium in the prestigious competition.
In fact, Attard had started the day leading the competition on 74 clays alongside French shooter Emmanuel Stephane Petit and Charalampos Chalkiadakis, of Greece.
On Wednesday morning, the 18 participating shooters were due to shoot the remaining 50 clays with the top eight shooters progressing to the competition’s semi-finals stage.
Here Attard missed just two clays to complete the first phase of the competition with 122 clays from 125.
That left him third in the standings alongside Chalkiadakis and Frenchman Eric Allain Delaunay.
Petit topped the leaderboard with 124 clays after compiling two straights while Egypt’s Azmy Mehelba soared to second spot, just one point behind.
In the semi-final stage, the qualified shooters were split into two groups with the top two shooters from each section contesting the final.
However, Attard failed to secure a top two placing and was eliminated.
Malta’s other shooter Marcello Attard just missed out on a place in the semi-final when he ended his commitments in 12th place on 118 points, just one behind Italian duo Gabriele Rossetti, Tammaro Cassandro, Turkey’s Mustafa Serhat Sahin and Greek Efthymios Mitas who took the final berth with 119 points.
