On Friday, Serbian media had said that former Yugoslavia player Milosevic was set to return in charge of the club for a second spell after the sacking of Ilija Stolica.
However, both parties failed to find an agreement with Partizan Belgrade handing the team to Petric.
Petric donned the colours of Partizan Belgrade 106 times between 1989 and 1993 after playing for his home team of OFK Beograde.
As coach, Petric has been in Serbia but has also coached in Cyprus and Slovenia.
Between 2007 and 2008, Petric was general secretary of the club before being promoted to vice-president in the following couple of years.
Stolic’s term in charge of Partizan lasted only 65 days during which he recorded only victory in six games between Serbian championship and Europa League.
Partizan have picked up only five points in four league matches so far and are due to face Mladost Novi Sad over the weekend.
