Birkirkara women’s team have continued with their winning streak after beating old rivals Hibernians 2-0 in this week’s Assikura Women’s League appointment.
Jose Borg’s side scored both goals in the opening 45 minutes through a wonder goal from Sara Saliba and a Raina Giusti’s delightful lob as they now have 23 points after nine games.
The Stripes are expected to become even more competitive having announced the arrival of Argentine forward Brisa Campos whose resume makes her a very promising signing for the Maltese champions.
Hibernians, on their part, are now fourth with 16 points as they face Raiders Lija in next week’s game.
Denis Guerra’s Raiders Lija are also on 16 points having lost to Mġarr United 1-0 this week.
The Greens handed a senior debut to their Moroccan midfielders – Chaimaa Tourki and Oumaima Mhalli – as they clinched three important points, lifting themselves into third with 17 points.
The all-important goal was netted by captain Brenda Borg who beat Giulia D’Antuono with a close-range header.
Elsewhere, Swieqi United made little work of San Ġwann as they scored nine goals without reply.
Jade Flask was the Owls’ main protagonist with four goals between minute 25 and minute 75.
American forward Tatiana Dabney, Jessica Dimech, Andy Zammit Mizzi, Emma Xuereb and Mirayah Aquilina – her first senior goal, completed Swieqi’s large victory.
