Ineos Grenadiers’ Tom Pidcock will miss this weekend’s Milan-San Remo monument due to concussion, his team said on Wednesday.
Briton Pidcock, 23, who won March 4’s Strade Bianche, suffered the injury in a crash on Sunday’s final stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy.
The Strade Bianche and the Milan-San Remo are part of cycling’s Classic races, some of the sport’s most prestigious one-day events.
“This is obviously disappointing for both Tom and the team,” Ineos’ deputy team principal Rod Ellingworth said.
“We saw at Strade Bianche the sort of form he’s in and I know how keen he was to carry that into Milan-San Remo.
“Rider welfare is our priority and he’ll follow the advice of our medical team to ensure that he’s 100% ready to safely resume his Classic campaign,” he added.
The Milan-San Remo, held this Saturday, is considered a monument along with four other of cycling’s main one-day races.
