Malta will face Moldova, Latvia and Andorra in the newly-launched UEFA Women’s Nations League.
The Maltese side were drawn in League C – Group 1 against three teams that are ranked lower than them – Moldova (110th), Latvia (117th) and Andorra (180th).
Ranked 87th in the world, Malta will head into this tournament in high spirits after winning their latest three games against Luxembourg (twice) and Estonia.
Italian tactician Manuela Tesse, who took over from Mark Gatt, led the Maltese side to these three victories during the February and April international windows.
Moldova is a familiar face to the Maltese team having faced each other in last year’s VisitMalta Women’s Trophy with Malta winning 3-1.
On the other hand, Malta has not faced Latvia and Andorra since 2017 and 2016 respectively.
The Latvian had side defeated Malta 1-0 in the 2017 Aphrodite Cup in Cyprus while Malta had secured a 3-0 and a 4-0 wins over Andorra during a 2016 double-header on home soil.
Malta will play each team twice on a home and away basis starting this September.
The five group winners of League C are automatically promoted to League B while the three best-ranked runners-up will take on the three best third-placed teams of League B in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
