Birkirkara have parted ways with Brazilian forward Alex Lecao Alves who is set to continue his career in the Middle East after agreeing on a deal with a club from Kuwait, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The 30-year-old has been on the books of Birkirkara since the start of last season when he returned to the club for a second spell and enjoyed a solid campaign with the Stripes, helping the team to finish in place in the BOV Premier League as well as winning the FA Trophy.
In fact, the former Birkirkara and Balzan forward has made 27 appearances for the Stripes in the league and cup, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.
Initially, Lecao had agreed terms with the Birkirkara top hierarchy to extend his stay at the club for another season.
However, the allure of playing in the Middle East has again had the best of Lecao who when he received an offer to join a club in Kuwait he couldn’t turn it down and agreed to leave the Stripes.
Negotiations between the two clubs went smoothly and an agreement was reached.
Then, the forward agreed personal terms with the club from Kuwait and on Thursday was due to travel to the Middle East country and finalise his move.
In fact, this is the third time that Alves is joining a club in the Middle East following previous moves to Al-Okhdood in 2020 and Al-Washm in January 2022.
