Valletta FC have completed the signing of young defender Neil Micallef, the Premier League club announced.
The 24-year-old defender becomes the Citizens’ fourth signing of the close season as the team looks to put behind them last season’s disappointing campaign and challenge for a top placing in next season’s BOV Premier League.
“Maltese defender Neil Micallef signs for Valletta FC,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“We would like to welcome Neil and wish him the best of luck with our club.”
At Valletta FC Micallef will reunite with his former coach Thane Micallef with whom he worked at Gudja United two years ago.
Added to that, he will also renew his acquaintances with his former team-mate Juan Bolanos who has also left Gudja United this summer and join Valletta FC.
Apart from Bolanos, Valletta FC has also agreed deals to sign Federico Vega and Argentine midfielder Fernando Barrientos.
During his career, Micallef, who came through the youth nursery of Pembroke, also donned the colours of Marsa and Mqabba before joining Gudja United in 2021 where he made 56 appearances in the Maltese top-flight.
Valletta will open their Premier League campaign when they face Sirens on September 16.
