Mosta FC have completed the signing of Nigerian goalkeeper Udoh Akpan just before the summer transfer window in Malta shut down on Thursday night.
The signing of Akpan is a huge coup for Mosta FC who are bringing to the club a player who helped his country win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015.
In fact, Akpan made seven appearances for Nigeria in the tournament and managed four clean sheets during the tournament.
During that competition, Akpan shared the field with players who became superstars today such as Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze who is currently on the books of Italian giants AC Milan.
Throughout his career, Akpan had several experiences outside Nigeria as in 2017 he moved to Israel and formed part of the youth ranks of Ihud Bnei Sakhnin and in 2021 he headed to Spain where he played for Almagro FC.
In the past 12 months, he returned to Nigeria where he was on the books of FC One Rocket and ASSC.
Akpan was Mosta’s third signing on deadline day after the Blues also confirmed the acquisition of Ivory Coast defender Willie Britto, Mali striker Moussa Camara as well as former Malta international forward Jean Paul Farrugia.
Farrugia has agreed to join Mosta FC on a season-long deal from Sliema Wanderers and will surely be hoping that he will manage to secure more regular football with his new club.
