Gozitan champions Nadur Youngsters started the new season on a fine note after lifting the GFA Super Cup with a 2-0 win over Għajnsielem.
With this victory, Nadur not only took revenge for their defeat against the same Għajnsielem in last season’s final, but also went level with Victoria Hotspurs with nine titles.
After this success, Nadur are the holders of all four competitions in Gozitan football, as they are the reigning champions and winners of the Knock Out for the first division and the BOV GFA Cup.
Nadur Youngsters dominated this final, and their win matured with a goal scored in each half.
Nadur’s new coach Elton Vella fielded the three new foreigners signed this summer and on the back of this performance they will be among the favourites to win the major honours this season. The Youngsters took the ground running and took just two minutes to take the lead as Marcelo Barbosa scored directly from a free-kick.
Minutes later the Brazilian forward had an attempt that was stopped by the post.
On 62 minutes Nadur doubled the score through a fine header by Marcelo Pereira Muniz following a cross by Barbosa.
At the end of the match, Nadur were presented with the medals and the Super Cup trophy by Samuel Azzopardi, president of the GFA.
