Spain called up Ferran Torres and Yeremy Pino on Saturday to replace injured wingers Marco Asensio and Dani Olmo in the squad to face Cyprus in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Asensio and Olmo went off injured in the first half of Spain’s 7-1 win over Georgia, in which 16-year-old Lamine Yamal became the country’s youngest ever player and goalscorer.
Nations League champions Spain, second in Group A, host Cyprus in Granada on Tuesday looking to take another step towards qualification.
Paris Saint-Germain winger Asensio hurt his foot while Olmo sustained a blow to the knee in Tbilisi, with the Spanish football federation saying in a statement Saturday “their presence against Cyprus is not viable, after the relevant medical checks”.
Coach Luis de la Fuente used Pino in the Nations League final win over Croatia in June, while Ferran Torres last appeared for Spain under Luis Enrique at the 2022 World Cup.
