Valletta FC have announced the appointment of Vincenzo Potenza as their first-team coach.
The Italian coach had been in talks for the past week with the Capital Club after the latter’s decision to part ways with Thane Micallef after only four matches of the 2023-24 Premier League season.
Negotiations between the two parties were finalised on Saturday morning when the Italian coach agreed to a deal to take over the reins of the team for the rest of the season.
“Italian coach Enzo Potenza has been appointed as new Valletta Football Club Head coach,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“We would like to welcome Mister Potenza and wish him the best of luck with our Club.”
The Italian coach has enjoyed a positive coaching career in Maltese football since his arrival in 2018 when he managed to help Senglea Athletic secure Premier League survival after taking over the team during the season.
From then he moved to Floriana and under his charge the Greens were crowned as Malta champions in the 2019-20 season.
The Italian last term was handed the job of rescuing Santa Lucia from the Premier League drop midway through the season and he managed to steer the side to safety after defeating Żejtun Corinthians in the promotion/relegation play-off.
Potenza is expected to take charge of his first training session with Valletta FC on Monday as they look to step up their preparations for their next Premier League fixture later on this month.
In fact, Valletta FC will resume their league commitments when they take on third-placed Marsaxlokk on October 22.
