Santa Lucia FC are in advanced talks to bring in two reinforcements during the January transfer window as they look to step up their fight to move out of the relegation zone.
Sources have told the Times of Malta that the Premier League side are set to sign Malta U-19 international midfielder Daniel Letherby and winger Santiago Moracci.
Santa Lucia have endured a tough start to the Premier League campaign this season and the club led by coach Alessandro Zinnari are currently bottom of the standings with six points, level on points with Gudja United and Sirens and five points away from Gżira United, Valletta and Mosta.
The Saints are keen to bring in reinforcements next month and coach Zinnari has immediately set his sights on signing Letherby, particularly after working with the 19-year-old with the Malta U-19 national team.
The attacking midfielder was part of the squad that played in this summer’s European Championship finals that were played in Malta.
Letherby started his career playing in the youth ranks of Fgura United and Valletta before heading to the US where he is currently playing with Eastern New Mexico University in the second division of the NCAA Lone Star Conference.
After his experience with the Malta U-19 national team, Letherby has also been promoted to the U-21 squad, under the charge of Ivan Woods, and made his debut in the Euro Championship qualifier against Belgium last October.
On the other hand, Santa Lucia are pushing to sign Argentine winger Moracci.
Moracci started this season with Tarxien Rainbows, where he made nine appearances and scored four goals.
Now, the Argentine has agreed terms with the Rainbows to be released from his contract and is set to complete a move to Santa Lucia.
Moracci has been playing in Maltese football for 18 months as he was brought to our islands by Premier League side Marsaxlokk last term and he helped them to a fine first season as they not only retain their status in the top-flight but also reached the FA Trophy final before losing to Birkirkara.
Santa Lucia are hopeful of completing talks over these transfers in the coming days so that they can file the necessary paperwork at the Malta FA ahead of the championship restart on January 6.
